The Tour of Flanders witnessed a series of unfortunate events that led to the removal of multiple riders from the competition. The severity of the injuries was high, and Filip Maciejuk played a pivotal role in the crash.
The Bahrain Victorious rider made a daring attempt to overtake by traversing the grassy terrain and subsequently executed an ill-advised maneuver, resulting in a catastrophic accident that removed riders from numerous teams from the peloton. Following his actions, he expressed remorse and sought forgiveness, but the peloton remained unforgiving, with many riders criticizing him for his behavior.
“I’m really sorry for my mistake and causing the crash today. I hope all those involved are in good health and safe. This should not happen and was a big error in my judgement,” he wrote on his social media.
Movistar's Carlos Verona did not mince words in his comments regarding the Polish rider. The team was dealt a severe blow, with three of its riders eliminated as a result of the crash, prompting the Spaniard to urge the UCI to take firm action against the culprit. “Unfortunately it is not only you taking too much risk in the bunch nowadays. This sport is getting more and more dangerous for behaviors like yours today and I hope UCI starts to do something because there is no respect in the peloton anymore,” concluded Verona.
