Breaking: Amy Pieters regains consciousness after life-threatening accident

Dutch road race champion Amy Pieters suffered a serious crash during a training ride in Calpe back in December, which caused severe brain damage, and had her loose consciousness, for what has been already several months. This thursday, there has been a meaningful update on her health situation, as he has woken up from a long coma.

In a press release, Team SD Worx have confirmed the news: "The condition of Amy Pieters has changed. There is consciousness. This means that she can communicate slightly non-verbally. Amy recognizes people, understands what is being said and is able to carry out more and more assignments."

Long-term consequences of the accident can only be understood with time, however this improvement in her situation comes as a very big step in her health situation. Team have added that "doctors cannot yet say what residual symptoms and remaining abilities Amy Pieters will have as a result of the brain injury."
