With BORA - hansgrohe revealing their eight-rider lineup for the upcoming Giro d'Italia on Monday afternoon, German National Champion Emanuel Buchmann was a notable absentee, a decision the 31-year-old hasn't taken well.
Reacting to the snub on his official Instagram account, Buchmann fumes at his lack of selection. "I cannot describe my disappointment and frustration be not nominated for the Giro d'Italia this year," the German writes. " All year was planed for the Giro and even BORA - hansgrohe promised me the Co-Leadership for the GC."
With the team of Daniel Martinez, Max Schachmann, Florian Lipowitz, Patrick Gamper, Jonas Koch, Ryan Mullen, Danny van Poppel and Giovanni Aleotti, Buchmann is confused as to why he omitted after so much preparation and hope over the last few weeks.
"The training went well, the shape is good," he insists. "The last three weeks at the Teide I wanted to do the last preparation, but 16 days before the start of the Giro I got the call that I won't be in the lineup."
Everybody wants to go to the Giro. There are slim pickings at the TDF considering the big 4 are there. Even the breakaways wont work if the two teams Jumbo and UAE go at it hammer and tongs
Not a good look for Bora. I can understand wanting to get behind Roglic to justify that money. But what if he crashes out? (edit my mistake Danny Martinez - it would help if I read more first) With co-leaders the race will determine the leader. That's what we would like to see and some controversy until then ;)
