Ben Healy wins final Tour of Slovenia stage as Giovanni Aleotti defends himself to win overall classification

The final stage of the Tour of Slovenia was a difficult one and Giovanni Aleotti was put under serious difficulties. However, the BORA - hansgrohe rider managed to defend his jersey, as the classics rider starred on a day won by Ben Healy.

It was a difficult day to control, with a strong breakaway going up the road including Alexander Kristoff and Alessandro De Marchi who hunted the stage win. The chasing group was formed by Pello Bilbao, Ben Healy and Paul Double... A few other riders joined but the GC men Bilbao and Double returned to the peloton. Healy's group caught the breakaway.

On the final climb Healy and Martin Marcellusi went clear of the rest of the group, with Jhonatan Narváez bridging across to the peloton. Pello Bilbao also attacked but Aleotti managed to follow the wheel of the Basque rider. Matej Mohoric also bridged across to the front but there was no clear coordination whilst the peloton had a few teams on the move.

Ben Healy however attacked with 3 kilometers to go before the group got caught and rode to a magnificent solo win ahead of the Tour de France. Alexander Kristoff sprinted to second as the group was caught by the peloton; Orluis Aular finished third as Giovanni Aleotti won the overall classification.
