Gleb Syritsa took his first professional victory in the opening stage of
Tour de Langkawi. He was the fastest in the final sprint and took the stage victory.
"I'm obviously very happy with my win," Syritsa said in post-race interview. He continues, "I am happy that I was able to complete the work of my teammates today. The stage went well for us, I could count on support from the team all day. Andrey Zeits and Igor Chzan worked very hard to get back into the early breakaway."
It was not an easy victory. It started raining as the race was nearing its conclusion. A crash would be the last thing anybody would wish for. Fortunately, Syritsa reached the finish line safely and took the stage win. "The other guys managed to drop me off in a perfect position for the sprint. In the finale, we were still plagued by a big rain. It wasn't easy to control the situation. Fortunately, I felt pretty good in the rain, and everything else went as planned. I want to thank the entire team once again,” concluded Syritsa.
