Timo Roosen suffered a fracture in his forearm after his fall in the E3 Saxo Classic. This only became apparent last Monday, when he had an additional scan made. The key member of Fabio Jakobsen's Giro d'Italia sprint train thus won't start at the Italian Grand Tour.
Roosen crashed in the E3 Saxo Classic on March 22 and has not competed since. About three weeks after his last performance, it was discovered that he had a fracture in his forearm. "The membrane of my forearm is still very painful and I cannot cycle outside yet," the 31-year-old rider writes on Instagram. "It's a big disappointment that I have to miss the first big goal of the season."
This is yet another worry for Team dsm-firmenich PostNL's management who need to substitute yet another man from their Giro d'Italia lineup due to an injury. Young Brits Oscar Onley and Max Poole already dropped out of the selection due to injuries earlier this season.
In the run-up to the Giro d'Italia, Roosen would normally also ride the Tour of Turkey (April 21-28). That match has also been scratched from his programme. The Dutch team was able to fill in his spot with riders from development team for the Turkish 2.Pro stage race.
