- If you're including me in this, there's a misunderstanding. What I'd been thinking about was how, after years of work and great wins (including beating Pog), Remco's one missing jersey pretty much fell into his lap. His brilliant bike-throw at the finish was only necessary because of his own mistake on the last corner. And it wasn't just Pog who didn't show up; Seixas was holding out for Il Lombardia, Pidcock was practising coming second in Italy, and poor Ciccone's bent arms were frozen forever a millimetre from the finish line. All entertaining for us, but it was arguably Remco's narrowest yet easiest win that has secured his place in history. So the role of luck in a legacy playing in my mind.
