Alessandro Fedeli excited about his surprise podium at Eschborn-Frankfurt: “I’m very happy to take this third place”

Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team rode an aggressive race from the start with Matteo Moschetti featuring in the original breakaway of the day at Eschborn-Frankfurt. The Swiss team was never in bigger trouble, always having at least two riders at the front of the main bunch, especially when Team Jayco AlUla really pushed the pace on second ascent of Feldberg.

“I’m very happy for this result and also delighted to have raced at Eschborn-Frankfurt. I want to say congrats to the organisation because it’s one of the most beautiful races I’ve done. It’s a fantastic race, with fantastic roads and parcours," said Fedeli in official press release after the race. "Hirschi launched a strong attack in the last climb, it was a strong effort and we were just five in that move. There was a solo rider ahead and four re-entered after. In the sprint I did my best and I’m very happy to take this third place. All season I had good legs but never have the opportunity before today to show what I’m capable of doing.”

The winning move came in the final climb of the day, the Mammolshain, at around 36km to the finish. A group of 10 riders broke clear and opened a gap of 45 seconds, amongst them Fedeli, who was able to anticipate the decisive moment of the race when Hirschi exploded the race. The group then cooperated very well in order to keep their little advantage over quickly approaching peloton, deciding Eschborn-Frankfurt in a reduced sprint for the first time in 11 years.

The Italian managed to have a strong kick at the end of the tough race, sprinting to a strong and very important third place only behind Soren Kragh Andersen and Patrick Konrad, netting a big result for the new team.Next on Fedeli's schedule will be punchy French 1.Pro race - the Grand Prix du Morbihan - a race that certainly suits his rider profile.
