"I honestly don't dare to make a prediction" - Alberto Contador sees Evenepoel and Roglic above the competition at Giro but unsure who's the favourite

Alberto Contador, winner of two Giro d'Italia in his career spoke on Eurosport about the two favorites for the next Corsa Rosa, Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic.

The Spaniard, when asked about the favorite for the 2023 Giro d'Italia, only brought up two names, those of the Belgian from Soudal Quick-Step and the Slovenian from Jumbo-Visma. He did not consider names like Geraint Thomas, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Joao Almeida, Aleksandr Vlasov or Jack Haig. Contador is clear that the maglia rosa will be contested by Roglic and Evenepoel.

He is clear that the two favorites have prepared to perfection for the Giro and that they arrive at one hundred percent to fight for the final victory:

"It's a complicated question, it's a complicated question because we're talking about two riders of tremendous quality, two riders who come from a state of form and a very very good preparation," he says.

Contador, however, does not manage to make a decision on the favorite, he sees them really evenly matched and does not dare to choose between one of the two on who will win the next Giro:

"Both have prepared on Teide, Primoz Roglic has made a very good start to the season despite the fact that he started racing late, Remco the same, we've seen him give exhibitions like the one in Liège, so it looks complicated and I honestly don't dare to make a prediction and I can't put either one ahead of the other."
