Alejandro Valverde had a career that earned him a place within the elite of cycling. He won a Vuelta, 4 times Liège-Bastogne-Liège, 5 times La Fleche Wallonne among other great results in his 130 victories over his 20 years career. But one in particular has a special place in his heart that allowed him to retire without too many regrets.
"The World Championship was the maximum, with that I was able to retire with serenity" stated the Spaniard to the Spanish agency news EFE.
The rainbow title he achieved at 38 years old at the 2018 World Championships in Innsbruck that he had repeatedly missed out in previous editions made him having no regrets for his career. Since Valverde considered it has the "the maximum" of his career and his biggest goal.
"From the beginning to the end of the season, it was all very good. Everyone, at the beginning, at the end... they made me feel very loved, and being my last year it was spectacular for me. I had a lot of fun and it's also a pride to retire still being at a high level and getting victories", added the Murcian about his last season has a professional cyclist.
