A couple of weeks ago we announced that Polti was coming back to cycling. The Italian company of small household appliances had reached an agreement with Ivan Basso and Alberto Contador, the owners of the EOLO-KOMETA team, to collaborate with them from next season. Now we know that it will be the main sponsor and the team will be renamed Team Polti.
It has been the colleagues of the Gazzetta dello Sport who have advanced the news. With Kometa out of the equation (they announced a few months ago their departure), the company Eolo was left alone to sponsor a squad that is increasingly ambitious in its objectives. According to the Gazzetta, Eolo will probably continue to be a secondary sponsor of the squad.
Polti, a sponsor with history.
Polti sponsored Gianluigi Stanga's Italian team, a squad that existed under different names between 1983 and 2000 and that had Polti as its main sponsor between 1994 and the disappearance of the squad in 2000. In those years, it is worth mentioning Ivan Gotti's overall victory in the 1999 Giro d'Italia (the one in which Marco Pantani was disqualified).
