The
Tour Down Under has started off with a prologue this year instead of a regular bunch sprint, and it has delivered some spectacle as the riders raced through Adelaide one at a time. EF Education's-EasyPost's
Alberto Bettiol took the win.
The afternoon in Adelaide saw occasions spurts of rain. Whilst it started dry there was some rain towards the middle, and then again towards the last starters. It was a roulette for the riders to get it right and it has benefited specific riders. Alberto Bettiol struck gold with his starting time and has taken the win on the opening day with a comfortable margin and will put on the first ochre jersey.
Bettiol has won the prologue with 8 seconds over Magnus Sheffield and 10 seconds over
Julius Johansen. The likes of Ethan Hayter, Rohan Dennis and Luke Plapp were all outside the Top10 after being some of the main favourites for the stage.
Tomorrow the stage should suit the sprinters and will see Bettiol in what should be a calm lead of the race. Some small differences have been made in this opening day which will be important for the overall classification.
