A surprising return to high level sees Bob Jungels optimistic ahead of Tour de France

Ever since joining AG2R Citröen Team, not only has Bob Jungels not taken a win but he's been missing completely from race contention. With his contract ending at the end of the year the situation was bad for the 29-year old, however he has made an impressive comeback at the Tour de Suisse which has suddenly saw him rise up the ranks once again.

"I had a great week and I’m very happy to be back," Jungels said after the finale of the Tour de Suisse. Riding under the radar, Jungels managed to finish the race in sixth place after finishing the final time-trial in fifth, showing glimpses of the brilliancy he has achieved in the past. "The course was difficult, it was very hot but I felt very good from the first day. My only regret is that I lost a bit of time during the third and fifth stages, but I made progress over the days. The team worked well."

Jungels finished between Stefan Küng and Felix Grossschartner in the overall classification, a performance that has confirmed his good form and likely confirmed his presence in the Grand Boucle. The opening time-trial will likely see him high in the overall classification, and the early cobblestone stage in the north of France may prove to be the spot for Jungels to make his mark in the race and set himself as a possibility for the GC fight once again.

"I am relieved to find myself among the best and I hope to confirm this result in the coming weeks," he added. The Luxembourger is on the provisional startlist for the Tour de France and not only is AG2R finding another rider to provide support for Ben O'Connor, Jungels can also eye stages with the form he's currently having - aswell as, although being a very slim possibility, perhaps eyeing the GC himself.
