A star is born! A beastly Oier Lazkano wins the Spanish Road Cycling Championships

Beautiful race that we have lived in the Spanish Road Cycling Championships with final triumph for Oier Lazkano who in 2023 is confirmed as one of the most exciting national riders. Lazkano won alone. Second place went to Juan Ayuso and third to Alex Aranburu. They came close, but failed to come back. Fourth was Jesús Herrada.

National Championships. The Basque rider, born in Vitoria 23 years ago, attacked 26 kilometers from the finish line, leaving his teammates in the breakaway. The enormous numerical superiority of Movistar Team, with Carlos Verona escaped from the start and with Alex Aranburu glued like a limpet and stuck to Juan Ayuso Juan Ayuso, left the powerful rider with a few seconds of advantage that were insurmountable for the rest.

Javier Romo, a young Astana rider, and Victor de la Parte, from TotalEnergies, tried again and again, but their attacks were constantly cut off by the Movistar riders. After just 6 kilometers, Lazkano's lead over his pursuers was already more than a minute.

In the final climbs Javier Herrada, Luis León Sánchez, Fernando Barceló and Juan Ayuso also tried, but Lazkano's teammates quickly cut off their attempts. The work of an active Kern Pharma team throughout the race, with a García Pierna who suffered a problem and could not fight for the victory, should be highlighted. In the end, Lazkano after the great effort suffered in the last climbs, but the hard work of his team managed to give the victory to the Basque.
