Arvid de Kleijn is by no means an unknown in the sprinter world, however today's victory at Milano-Torino came as a surprise as
Tudor Pro Cycling Team got the best of the World Tour outfits.
“I felt great today and the team did a good job putting me in position. When I went through the corner 300 meters from the finish, I knew I was going to win. I felt that," de Kleijn shared in a post-race interview. The Swiss team, that turned Pro Team this season, was constantly well positioned in the closing kilometers of the Italian classic, and had the Dutchman in perfect position for the sprint.
As the likes of Dylan Groenewegen, Jordi Meeus and Biniam Girmay struggled in the much-battled finale, Tudor nailed the leadout to perfect, and de Kleijn directly beat Fernando Gaviria in the final sprint. After taking two Top5 places at the UAE Tour, the former Human Powered Health rider now opens the tabs for the team's season with a bang.
“Everyone around me says I can do it, win. Then you believe in it yourself and I also have a good group around me. At the end I really felt it was possible. This is grand. We are doing well as a team and showed a good lead-out today. That means we can show crazy things," he concluded.
