Jonas Bresseleers, a 24-year-old cyclist, was killed in a serious traffic accident in the Belgian village of Meer on Friday, March 15 his former team Acrog-Tormans reported. Bresseleers suffered a serious head injury in the collision and died on the spot a short time later. It is the second fatal accident for a rider from the team in five years.
Bresseleers was riding near the intersection of Blauwputten and Tolberg when he was hit by a truck, Het Nieuwsblad reports. A traffic expert has been sent to the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident. The driver of the truck was a 29-year-old man from Meer. He made a futile attempt to resuscitate the 24-year-old rider, but unfortunately the help was of no avail.
The sudden death of Bresseleers hits the Acrog-Tormans team hard. "Words are inadequate for this untold drama. Much strength to the relatives to bear this loss," the formation wrote on Facebook. The team experienced the same horrific situation five years earlier. Then it was Stef Loos, Bresseleers' teammate, who died in a traffic accident.
