2024 Tour de France stage 9 GC Update: Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard retain podium places after enthralling gravel day

Stage 9 of the Tour de France 2024 closed the first week in style, with the celebration of a gravel day that promised a lot of dispute between the favorites for the general classification. Tadej Pogacar started the day defending the yellow jersey over Remco Evenepoel, 2nd, and Jonas Vingegaard, 3rd.

As it turned out, the stage was an outstanding display of cycling at its most enthralling, with a lot of activity from the men in the general classification. Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel were the stars of the afternoon show in the peloton with multiple attacks trying to test each other and a Jonas Vingegaard who, without being aggressive, was able to solve all the attempts of the Slovenian and the Belgian.

After Anthony Turgis' victory from the breakaway, the men in the general classification came in just over 1 minute later. Tadej Pogacar still holds the lead with a 33-second advantage over Remco Evenepoel. Jonas Vingegaard remains 3rd at 1 minute and 15 seconds over the Slovenian, and Primoz Roglic remains 4th at 1 minute and 36 seconds despite the initial scare of the stage where it looked like the Slovenian would be left behind.

Behind, Juan Ayuso maintains 5th place, Joao Almeida in 6th, Carlos Rodriguez 7th and Mikel Landa 8th. The most notable changes have come through a Derek Gee who climbs 5 positions to 9th, 4 minutes and 2 seconds behind Pogacar. Matteo Jorgenson therefore loses a position and is 10th.
