It took a very long time, but Domenico Pozzovivo will complete one more season in the saddle as the experienced climber joins Italian ProConti team VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè with immediate effect. The 41-year-old Italian thus returns to the formation with which he entered the big cycling league in 2005 and even debuted at his first Giro d'Italia nineteen years ago.
Domenico Pozzovivo's cycling career was hanging in the balance for a long time and the Italian seemed to be willing to say goodbye at some point. In October, in conversation with WielerFlits, he indicated that quitting was a serious option. "There aren't many conversations. It's definitely possible that I'll quit. Honestly? I still have the legs and the motivation to continue, but if that doesn't work, I'll stop."
Roberto Reverberi, the team manager of VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè, is very enthusiastic about Pozzovivo's return. "Domenico will play a crucial role as a mentor and guide to the younger riders within the team. He is incredibly professional and still races at a high level after all these years. We are happy and proud that he can end his career for the team where it all started. The circle has closed."
"It looks like a movie script, but it has finally become reality," Pozzovivo states. "I am returning to the team where I took my first steps as a professional cyclist nineteen years ago. This brings with it a lot of emotions, but I also feel an enormous urge to pass on my experiences. I have to thank Bruno and Roberto Reverberi for the opportunity they gave me."
