"Today was a disappointing day, but I can accept that" - Lotte Kopecky misses out on Omnium medal at European Track Championship

More than just an ultra-talented racer on the road, Lotte Kopecky is also more than capable on track. Sadly for the Belgian however, she was unable to take medal in the omnium at the European Track Championship.

"Today was a disappointing day, but I can accept that. It's January, so I'm not at the peak of my fitness yet anyway," the 28-year-old, Team SD Worx superstar told Sporza after only managing a 7th placed finish overall.

9th and 8th placed finishes in the scratch and tempo race were followed by a win in the elimination race, but after everything was tallied in the points race it was just 7th overall for Kopecky. "I tried to get the most out of it and I'm still a little disappointed with 7th place. But one bad race doesn't mean the rest will be the same," she assesses.

“The tempo race is a guessing game to time your effort at the right time. For me it was just a little too early today. In the scratch, 9th is already better than what it used to be, but still not good enough. I had a very good feeling in the elimination, which also gave me confidence for the points race. Only that crash happens just when everyone is starting to feel a bit broken and then my strength normally comes to the fore. That neutralization allows everyone to recover somewhat. I still believed in the podium, but after that crash I knew it would be very difficult," Kopecky concludes. "I'm only human and I don't think anything is lost.”
