Geraint Thomas adds Olympic track event to his bucket list for 2024: "I'd love to do one more Olympics, but I don't want to go and just get another tracksuit"

Before his very successful road career, Geraint Thomas was also a formidable track racer. And not just that, the Welshman became two-time Olympic champion in Team Pursuit at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games. Now 37-year-old Thomas would like to give it one last shot at his third Olympic medal, in a year where he's already attempting the challenging Giro-Tour double.

"I'd love to do one more Olympics, but I don't want to go and just get another tracksuit," he told The Observer. "I want to be good enough to be in with a shout of a medal. I've got four tracksuits already - I don't need another one."

"I wanted to go back to the Giro after last year and the Tour is the Tour," the Ineos Grenadiers rider said. "In the back of my mind, I'd always thought: 'Sod it, why don't I just try to do both...?'"

Tadej Pogacar will be the man to beat at Giro d'Italia: "I'm not one to play mind games," he added. "I'll be doing my thing - try to stay consistent, good and strong all the way through. He's a racer and he just loves winning. When he retires, he's going to be one of the greatest of all time," he praises the Slovenian.
