Mathieu van der Poel explained in a video from 4Gold - a company he co-founded - how DNA insights have given him insights into his performance on the bike.
"As a professional cyclist, I always look for ways to improve my performance," says the Dutchman from Alpecin-Deceuninck in his cool rainbow jersey. "With our DNA test from 4Gold, I have learned to better understand the unique functioning of my own body."
"I really believe in personalizing this data, because everyone is different. 4Gold links my DNA to my lifestyle and ambitions via an app, allowing me to see how my body responds to certain training, supplements, nutrients and the like. With these insights I can make better decisions."
"The app tells me that during periods with a high intake of carbohydrates, I need extra support for my intestines. That's why I use the app every day," said the cycling world champion in a short video on the 4Gold YouTube page.

- I don't think it's only a British thing; the biggest talents aren't usually drawn to CX. Where are all the top Italian, French, Spanish, Slovenian CX riders? Apart from Belgium, and Netherlands, it's not really a target for up and coming cyclists - as there's no career unless you move to Belgium. Other countries can't support a proper professional series, like an international sport should be able to do. Lets not forget, since 2016, British riders have won plenty of World championships; with Pidcock, Richards, Tulett & Backstedt all winning more than one.....
