Whilst not one of the pre-race favourites for an Olympic medal at the women's mountain bike of the Paris 2024 games, Candice Lill's hopes were ended completely in a shocking scene.
With the South African having opted for a carbon fibre frame, the course took no prisoners with Lill's bike, completely exploding the rear wheel, snapping and breaking the back half of the frame of her bike. As Lill began to carry her destroyed bike towards the next point of help, her medal hopes were riding away at pace.
