After an Olympic title, Tom Pidcock has become the new XCO Mountain Bike World Champion. The route in Loch Lomong saw the Briton race it the fastest, taking the win after a fifth row start.
After the controversy, Pidcock managed to get himself to the front after a few laps of racing, and then dropped the competition including Nino Schurter with a couple of laps to the finale. Without Mathieu van der Poel, who crashed in the first lap of the race, he became the overwhelming favourite to take the win after reaching the front.
It was not a victory without it's competition as Short Track World Champion Sam Gaze powered through the final laps to close the gap significantly, but Pidcock had enough in the tank to hold the Kiwi - who began in the row behind - off. Veteran Nino Schurter finished third on the day to take another medal.
