Two heart surgeries and missing most Olympics qualifying rounds, that didn't bode well with Peter Sagan's ambitious plan to start at the Olympic Games one more time before definitely hanging up the racing bike.
A Sagan spokesman told Het Nieuwsblad that Sagan could earn a wild card invitation from the International Olympic Committee. "We know it’s going to be very difficult," he confirmed to the Belgian newspaper. "Mathematically it is no longer possible to get enough points."
Either way, Sagan will definitely the first European Olympics in a long time, even if just as a spectator. "It will be very difficult," the spokesman said. "Peter will be there at the Games anyway. If not as an athlete, then just as a guest."
Now finally fit to race again, but with no MTB competitions in sight, the Slovakian chose to pursue some of his other goals for 2024, one of them being promotion of thegrowing Slovakian/Czech continental formation Pierre Baguette Cycling at 2.Pro Tour de Hongrie.
The team lead by Peter's brother Juraj has been doing an awesome race, with multiple top 10 finishes and even briefly holding the leader's jersey through intermediate sprint bonification seconds. Sagan himself arrived at a solid 18th place in the opening stage.
