The third day of
Tour de Hongrie brought a challenge for climbers of the peloton and who else than German champion Emmanuel Buchmann should take over the initiative on the final ascent. However, the
BORA - hansgrohe leader underestimated his opponents, and despite his strong effort, was passed in the final meters.
"We waited for the final, steep 3 kilometers and then set the pace with Ben Zwiehoff. I gained a solid gap with my attack. 300m before the finish I was pretty sure that it would be enough for the win. I have to be honest: Nys and Ulissi surprised me. Of course I was disappointed at the end. Thanks to the small gaps, the GC is still quite open," Buchmann said in press release.
