Felix Gall has climbed into fifth place overall after Stage
19 of the 2025
Tour de France, benefiting from
Primoz Roglic’s ambitious, yet
doomed tactics that ultimately cost the Slovenian over twelve minutes. Gall,
who started the final week in seventh, now finds himself inside the top five
after another strong ride in the mountains, finishing sixth on the stage behind
Thymen Arensman who took his second stage win of the Tour ahead of Jonas
Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar.
"I'm very happy with today," Gall told Cyclism’Actu.
"I didn't feel very good at the beginning of the stage in the Col du Pré,
but after that I found good legs, and the team did an incredible job on the
final climb to keep a great pace and take as much time as possible from
Roglic."
Gall felt so good on the final climb that his team set the
pace for much of the climb, the first team other that Visma to have dislodged
UAE and Pogacar from that role over the past three weeks.
Meanwhile, Roglic had gone all-in for a stage win over two
consecutive days, launching bold solo attacks that thrilled fans but saw him
fall from fifth to eighth. While the move cost his team thousands in prize
money, it opened the door for Gall to capitalize in the GC battle.
"It worked really well, it was my goal today to take as
much time as possible from him, I wasn't really thinking about the result of
the stage," Gall explained. "The Tour isn't over, I hope there won't
be any more changes in the general classification. On the last rest day, I was
7th overall and I said that if I kept this position in Paris I would be very
happy. Now I'm 5th, it's even better."
