Despite all the messages and warning for supporters at the roadside to be respectful of the riders on the road, instances keep happening in 2024. The latest of which has Filippo Ganna struck by an overeager fan as he began his time-trial efforts on stage 7 of the 2024 Giro d'Italia.
Pre-stage, Ganna and the Maglia Rosa Tadej Pogacar have been considered the two main contenders for the stage win. The Italian national time-trial champion didn't get off to the best of starts however, as he was taken off balance by a woman stretching her arm out to try and get a touch of Ganna as he went past. Thankfully, the INEOS Grenadiers powerhouse was able to stay upright, but a shake of the head showed the Italian's discontent.
