Mathias Flückiger is, to say the least, not happy with the current prize money in mountain biking. The Swiss mountain bike star complains on social media about the prize money.
On his Instagram page, the 35-year-old Flückiger - who currently leads the UCI rankings and has been vice-world champion three times and vice-Olympic champion once - shows the form he had to complete to claim his prize money from the last World Cup in Snowshoe, USA.
"If a sponsor sees this...," he begins his story. "Then they will probably wonder why they have to pay so much money, when fourth place in the World Cup is only worth $599. It's just embarrassing," he says with a laughing emoji.
"It's even embarrassing for me in a way to talk about it, because on the other hand we say that the sport is growing. Please don't get me wrong. I am not interested in raising as much money as possible, because then I would be practicing the wrong discipline within cycling anyway. It's about ratio."
