Thibau Nys delivered an outstanding performance to secure
victory at the Belgian Cyclocross Championships, showcasing his determination
and skill with a remarkable recovery ride. The European champion stormed to the
win, with
Laurens Sweeck finishing in second place and a gritty
Toon Aerts
claiming the final spot on the podium.
After the race, Nys shared his thoughts
on the victory with Wielerflits,
expressing his delight at achieving his first Belgian title.
“This is an incredible way to win my first Belgian title.
This was one of the most beautiful races ever,” Nys began enthusiastically.
“That I looked uncertain before the start? I was very realistic, but also had
self-confidence. This round became more and more one that you could win on
condition, that was good. But I certainly had doubts before the start, although
I was also confident to fly into it. That is actually the perfect cocktail.”
Despite facing challenges early in the race, Nys remained
composed and confident in his abilities. “I immediately felt that I had the
legs to move up. So I certainly did not panic. After that I also tested my
legs, and I realized that I could put the rest on lengths. Then it was a matter
of finding the moment to pull through.”
Nys executed his race-winning move with precision. “I
started when the rest were on the limit. That was ideal. My season is
definitely top now. But on the other hand, if you want to become European and
Belgian champion, you want to win more. I want more victories to make those
jerseys shine. But of course I am very happy with this.”
