Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal is enjoying a great start to the cyclocross season. Without the presence of big names like Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel and Tom Pidcock, the team is taking one victory after another.
"We did everything we could to start well, but it was hard to calculate this. We've already won 11 TV races: that's unseen. Because of a lack of competition? You can't detract from Laurens Sweeck or Lars van der Haar. They too can win big crosses,” said Jurgen Mettepenningen.
He continues, "I refuse to look at December. We'll see then. The rankings are important to us, and by that period, we can already more or less secure them. We prefer to win them all: World Cup, Superprestige and X²O. And we want a jersey. We have the right to express that ambition."
Eli Iserbyt is one of the reasons why the team is enjoying a great start of the season. The rider has already won three world cups in Waterloo, Fayetteville and Tabor. "This is also the moment to reap, and I want to win the World Cup," said Iserbyt.
He is confident in his form, "My condition is very good and I am a little bit surprised myself. From March to the end of June, I was able to do almost nothing and then there is always doubt because September comes quickly," explains Iserbyt.
Although he also wishes for the return of the big names since it will make the competition more exciting. "It all runs surprisingly smoothly, and sometimes the euro falls the right way. People are kind of used to not being there by now. But it will be fun when they return. We ride against each other and get nice crosses,” concluded the Belgian rider.
