Whilst Nieuwenhuis rode to sixth, the team had an overall good day with
Lars van der Haar finishing third and jumping into the lead of Superprestige. However what struck out to him the most was the performance of
Mathieu van der Poel and
Wout van Aert, who attacked in the opening lap to create the decisive gap, before working together throughout the whole race to fight for the win in the end.
"I've never seen what the first lap did. Well, Thijs Aerts is leading, but then they start. They take twenty seconds on half a lap, while behind that there was also full riding, he says. The race ended dramatically with van der Poel loosing his pedal in the final sprint, however overall it proved to be a thrilling day in Heusden-Zolder. Today's night race in Diegem will further impact the Superprestige which is now a big goal for the Belgian team.
