A new organizing committee is working on a comeback for the Ronde van Limburg in 2024. The Dutch one-day race, which would be in its 71st edition if it returns, should take place on Sunday, March 3, with a finish at the Adsteeg in Beek.
Milan van Wersch (Limburg Cycling) went looking for a new board last year and ended up with a well-known name. Thijs Rondhuis, organizer of the National and European Cycling Championships this year, will wield the gavel in the oldest competition in Dutch Limburg.
"We are not there yet, but we are fully committed to a new edition. The cycling calendar is already quite full and if we want a real hill classic with a strong field of participants, then this period is better, also because it is not yet so busy in the hill country," says Rondhuis. There will be a final decision in November.
The race was last organized in 2022, when Jaap Roelen won ahead of Coen Vermeltfoort and Jelle Vermoote. The competition was then on the national calendar, just like in previous editions. The Ronde van Limburg is therefore not to be confused with the Belgian equivalent of the same name, which does enjoy UCI 1.1 status.
