Puck Pieterse ended her
World Cup campaign on a high note by securing a victory for herself in Besançon. Despite a setback from a mechanical breakdown, the Dutch champion was able to make a comeback and take the lead in the race.
She was in a league of her own. "I felt good today," Pieterse said in the post-race interview. A problem with her chain in the opening lap cost her valuable time, but she recovered quickly. "My chain got stuck on the first lap, which was a setback. But I felt I was strong and could easily come back. Then I decided to continue solo."
She further added, "The chase did take a lot of energy. Maybe I wanted to return too fast, but after that, I noticed that I could slow down and recover for a while. We have to show each other what we are worth."
Her focus is now on the World Championship, but she wants to take a break before making her final preparations for the event. "For me, it will be a quiet week now. I'm going straight home today, and I'll keep training for the rest of the week. Maybe I'll schedule another cross-training session. But mostly I'm going to rest. It's a World Championship. I've been training hard for that recently so that it will be different from normal," concluded Pieterse.
