Crelan-Fristads rider
Laurens Sweeck crossed the line in fourth place in the Overijse
World Cup. A strong
Tom Pidcock and Michael Vanthourenhout proved too much for the Belgian.
Sweeck decided to race without pressure today. “Of course I would have liked to score four in a row, but it wasn't in the cards today. I didn't compete for the win from the beginning," he said.
He continues, "I might have hoped for more, but in the warm-up I actually didn't have a very good feeling. In general it went a little bit difficult today. By driving my own pace I did end up in my place, which is good. Going into the penultimate lap I was only 25 seconds behind, that's not a big difference. Then in the final I do lose a lot of time, but well, I remember the positive."
In Overijse, Pidcock is racing his second CX race and remains fresh and energetic compared to other riders racing every weekend. "When the fresh guys return to the field, it makes sense that they can compete for the win. It also makes sense for Tom Pidcock to compete right away, he's still fresh. Pidcock didn't become world champion for nothing, either," Sweeck said.
As the big three arrive, he knows it will be more difficult for him to win, but he will keep fighting. "I'm certainly not looking forward to it, the arrival of the fresh men. Of course, I mainly hope that one day I will be able to beat them," concluded Sweeck.
