The 1st of November is usually a holy day in cyclocross, with the iconic Koppenbergcross on the menu. It is one of the most popular races of the year, and this year will be the first event of the X2O Badkamers Trofee.
“These first victories of the season mean a lot to me, but the Koppenbergcross is still something different from other crosses," Iserbyt said in a recent interview. "The Koppenberg has a mythical character, every rider wants to win this race once in his life. I have already done it three times and I will resolutely go for a fourth victory on Tuesday."
"Before the start of the cyclocross season, I set a goal to make every regularity cup a goal, including the X2O Badkamers Trofee," the Belgian continued, assuring that he will aswell be battling for this cup, aswell as the World Cup and Superprestige. He will be facing the likes of Laurens Sweeck, Michael Vanthourenhout and Lars van der Haar as he has over the last few weeks, but should be the man to beat.
“That says something about the importance of this race for me. Together with my World Champion jerseys from the U23 and my European Championship jersey from the pros, those cobblestones are the only trophies that have been given a place in my home," the Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal rider claims.
"Normally I don't care much for trophies or medals, but I do attach a lot of importance to those cobblestones. A dry course suits me well. Then I can use my explosiveness and I get a round on the Koppenberg that is tailor-made for me," he concluded.
