Joran Wyseure successful in front of home crowds: "I didn't get my podium place for free"

Joran Wyseure was on the podium of the Hexia Cross Gullegem on Saturday. The Belgian finished third in front of his own audience, just ahead of Thibau Nys.

"I didn't get my podium place for free," he confided in the flash interview afterwards, that Nys was especially tough opponent in the muddy race. "It was a very tough cross."

"Thibau was also strong, so I'm happy that I could just beat him in the last lap. How deep did I have to go? Still quite deep. It was at the cutting edge. I think Thibau made a mistake, which allowed me to pass. However, then I made another mistake, so it was quite hard again. But I'm really pleased. It was a very tough cross, which will be difficult for everyone heading into tomorrow," he refers to the Zonhoven World Cup.

For Wyseure, the cross in Gullegem was a home race. "It's always fun to race in West Flanders, I always like to come to Gullegem. Today I really had a good feeling. I will take that with me to the next races. To tomorrow and to next week, the Belgian championship, where it will also be quite difficult. I'm looking forward to it."
