22-year old Pim Ronhaar has had a breakthrough season and is one of the headliners of the cyclocross season. After winning in Dendermonde and Dublin, he looks to carry good form into Tabor and chase a medal alongside his compatriots.
“Last year, in the discussions for the World Cup in Hoogerheide, we discussed that we should not get in each other's way. That's the essence. We all ride in an orange jersey. And if Mathieu [van der Poel] can do his thing, he will ride away immediately," Ronhaar told Wielerflits. "So I'm not going to Tábor to help. But he doesn't need that either. If I feel like I'm having a bad day on Sunday, I'm not going to try to follow him. But if I have another good day, why not?”
Ronhaar has specially thrived in the muddy courses this year, and the rain that has fallen in the Czech Republic over the past few days have made some difference, it will be a packed course that will be quite difficult right from the start. He points out a rider who should fit this route: “Michael Vanthourenhout. He's going to be very good."
"Eli Iserbyt will in principle also be very good on such a lap. And Lars [van der Haar] has also been there very well. And yes, Mathieu of course. I can actually name three or four others." The Baloise - Trek Lions has recently finished second in the Dutch national championships and third in the Hoogerheide World Cup. He enters as a contender for a medal, compatriots Joris Nieuwenhuis and Lars van der Haar will be direct competitors.
“I've won two World Cups and haven't been out of the top 4 in recent weeks, except in Benidorm. So yes, on a good day I have to… No, I don't have to do anything. With a good one I might be able to finish on the podium," he adds.
