Joris Nieuwenhuis has no strong opinion about the current design of the World Cup or what may need to change. Speaking to WielerFlits, the newly crowned Dutch champion admits the current ammount of races and competitions is unbearable, yet he thinks only constructive criticism can help to reach a change.
"So I'm not going to criticize now," said Nieuwenhuis. "I should also look into it more to understand both sides better. I also think it is a bit unfounded at the moment that everyone is criticizing each other and that a solution is not being looked at together."
The Baloise Trek Lions rider believes that the UCI and the riders should discuss this with each other. "Why not? It is not that difficult to visit each other and have conversations," he says. "Then I think you can have an opinion and that you can change something. Otherwise it's kind of pointless to throw sh*t around in the media."
"Fourteen crosses is just too much. I don't think you can claim an entire season. There are also many other organizers and other competitions. They are just part of it and they also matter. We cannot participate in all those competitions and also travel a lot, that just takes a lot of energy," he concludes.
