Belgian coach Sven Vanthourenhout doesn't think the current World Cup is in as bad state: "I don't think it's a bad thing that they have to go abroad here and there"

The cyclocross World Cup continues to be a hot topic among riders and fans, as well as officials and coaches. If it depends on Belgian national coach Sven Vanthourenhout, it should certainly remain the most prestigious ranking.

"I look at it purely in terms of the sport in general, and then I think it is good that one ranking is clearly the most important. For me, the World Cup should certainly continue to visit all the countries it does now,¨" he tells WielerFlits. "I think it is extremely important that we cross the border. The result will be fewer World Cups in Belgium."

"I have never had a problem with the current World Cup," says the Belgian national coach. "I actually think that there are too many rankings and too many competitions that make it so difficult. In that respect, I am always a fan of a prestigious World Cup ranking."

Regarding rider's complaints about excessive travelling, Vanthourenhout doesn't share the same opinion. "Gosh, I don't think it's a bad thing that they have to go abroad here and there to participate in a World Cup. That happens at most five times in a season. If we were to weigh that against other sports... Look at road cycling, there you sometimes have to do different things than going to France, just across the border, or to Italy..."
