Annemarie Worst rode in second position for a long time in the Superprestige Niel, but eventually had to settle for third place. Her teammate Aniek van Alphen passed her in the final lap.
"It was just a very difficult lap," Worst said in a quick interview afterwards. "You also had to be lucky that you had the right track, you couldn't see the track. It was like seeing what lay beneath the puddles. I didn't necessarily take any risks, but I suddenly just lay there," she laughed.
The riders rode four laps. That was enough on the muddy course, Worst thought. "It was just really bad. The pace was very slow. Four laps was quite a long time."
Was there any collaboration possible between Worst and Alphen? "No not really. It was every man for himself on this round. It was very hard, it didn't work. You just have to choose your own lines," said the Cyclocross Reds rider. "How deep have I gone? It was just very difficult, it was different to go into depth. It was a very slow cross. You can't really speed up, it's one pace. I find that quite difficult at the moment. I prefer starting, technique and acceleration. This just wasn't that."
