Things looked good for Pim Ronhaar for a long time in the Namur World Cup, but after a battle the Dutchman from Baloise Trek Lions finally had to admit his superiority in Tom Pidcock. Ronhaar ultimately crossed the finish line in second place, but was very satisfied with his performance afterwards.
"After a training camp in Mallorca, the question is always whether you are good enough to participate, but I immediately felt good," Ronhaar looked back on his cross afterwards. "In the first lap, Joris and I kept a nice pace. I felt like I was a little better. So I had to go for it, also because Tom was approaching."
Ronhaar, winner of the World Cup rounds in Dendermonde and Dublin earlier this season, initially managed to keep Pidcock behind him. "It went well, but in the last two laps Tom was a little too strong. He came out of the back really quickly. Then he continued to ride for about three laps at about twenty meters. I had to keep pushing."
However, Pidcock did join Ronhaar at a certain point and the latter already felt the mood. "Tom passed me on the penultimate lap and then it was all over. He then had to deal with a flat tire and I still had the hope of catching up again, but Tom was ultimately too strong. He really rode up the climb like a superman," Ronhaar compliments.
