Eli Iserbyt was one of the main contenders for the European Championships in Namur, but a mishap on the opening lap saw him struggle with leg pain, which led him to abandon the race early on. He is now going to be tested to see the status of the knee.
“It was very weird. I have to say that since my back problems I have been struggling with a kind of numbness on my left side. I thought it was better, but it played up again on Sunday," Iserbyt shared after the race where his teammate Michael Vanthourenhout took the win and the jersey. Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal boass Jurgen Mettepenningen revealed later that he would undergo an MRI scan this Wednesday, in Antwerp.
"We may know more on Wednesday evening or Thursday. Then we know the results of the scan. Hopefully Eli isn't stuck with a long-term injury. Preferably, it is a very short-lived ailment," he said. Only afterwards will it be known if there is an ongoing health issue that needs to be fixed or if he can return to competition this weekend..
This weekend will see the 5th round of the World Cup in Beekse Bergen, which will see Iserbyt likely aiming to defend his lead in the competition Furthermore, this Friday the riders will also rider the second round of the Superprestige in Niel, where the Belgian is also leading.
