After having it's presence confirmed for the
Tour de France,
TotalEnergies can breathe a sigh of relief as they have their main goal of the season set and will be able to take their new star into it.
In an interview back in January with L'Équipe,
Peter Sagan had said, "We are going to build a team around me and this is what attracts me to the project. It’s pressure, sure, but it’s just been my routine for a long time. It was no different with my old teams."
It wasn't the best of pre-season periods for Sagan as he tested positive for Covid-19 for a second time and was also fined for an incident in Monaco where he under the influence of alcohol and caused an injury in a police officer.
Nevertheless, Sagan has in the meantime recovered and has resumed training, currently in Gran Canaria where he is in a training camp with his brother Juraj.
He had stated having similar ambitions before: “When I joined Bora-Hansgrohe in 2016, people also spoke of it as a small team. I don’t care that they’re not currently on the World Tour, I want to help it grow.”
Sagan is set to start his season next weekend in the Tour des Alpes Maritimes et du Var before tackling the Opening weekend, Paris-Nice, Milano-Sanremo and what should be his main goal of the early season in the cobbled classics campaign where his ambitions should remain of taking a big win.
