Denise Betsema had to satisfy herself with silver in
Superprestige Niel. She finished three seconds behind
Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado.
The Dutchwoman enjoyed the race until the end. "Until the last lap, it was a fierce battle," she told WielerFlits. She was at the front with Alvarado for the most part of the race but slipped behind in the last lap." That last lap, I had some problems with engaging my pedal, that didn't go quite right. That's where Alvarado hit a hole as well. It's a bummer I couldn't finish, but I'm happy with the form," explained Betsema.
She lost her momentum in the sand passage, and Alvarado used this opportunity to distance herself. "I didn't feel like she really ran away there. After the sand passage, I just really couldn't get into the pedals, actually what I had a little bit the whole last lap. Then you go into a descent like that, very unsure. Alvarado then sees that she has a gap, which creates morale. She finishes it off nicely, she is a deserved winner. But, what I'm saying, I'm happy with the form, and I look forward to the next one," concluded Betsema.
