The battle between
Laurens Sweeck and Lars van de Haar in
Superprestige Niel was an intense one. Sweeck emerged victorious in the end. In the final moments, he outsprinted van de Haar and earned his second victory of the season.
"They often tell me I have to hold back on training, that it pays off. Maybe I should prove those people right," Sweeck said in the post-race interview. He continues, "It's not that I was deathly ill, but I didn't sit on my bike for two days. I'm not used to that, but you see, that can help sometimes."
Sweeck managed to gain crucial seconds in the sandy strech just before the finish line which made all the difference in the ranking."If you make a really good turn there, you could grab a few seconds.I think I rode away there earlier as well. That was early, it was still long. And there was quite a bit of wind, so if you could take over a bit with two, three guys, you did have an advantage. I had to dose a little, I was on the limit. Otherwise, I wouldn't have let them come back."
As a result of his victory in Niel, Sweeck has become the new leader in Superprestige, and he aims to maintain that position. "Surely, this is one of my main goals.I left the X2O a little bit behind. In the World Cup, I'm in good shape and here too, so I'm going to try to hold on to that," concluded Sweeck.
