Corne van Kessel delays return to competition, out of Europeans

Corne van Kessel will not be present at the starting line in the upcoming European cyclocross championship in Namur. Van Kessel broke his collarbone in a fall at training a month ago and though he was given the green light to participate but he did not feel fit enough to participate.

"During the warm-up, I lost control of my bike in a track I've cycled through dozens of times. Bart Wellens accompanied me to the hospital in Herentals, where a broken collarbone was diagnosed," Van Kessel explained.

Mathieu Vermeersch, Team Physician, was confident in his diagnosis and expected Kessel to be ready for the European Championships. "We expect that Corné will be able to return to the field after a recovery period of four to six weeks," said Vermeersch.

The calculations Vermeersch made, however, seem to have been off. The Dutchman is not fit enough to present himself in European Championship and put himself in the spotlight. This would have a great opportunity for him to present himself to the potential team and try to secure a contract.
