Baloise - Trek Lions loses one of it's leaders for the 2024-2025 season

Joris Nieuwenhuis is leaving Baloise - Trek Lions with immediate effect. The Dutch champion was hoping for an improved contract with the cyclocross team managed by Sven Nys, but an agreement was not reached and so they part ways.

In a statement on social media, Baloise - Trek Lions announced the termination of cooperation with Nieuwenhuis. Apparently the two sides were unable to find conditions that would suit both sides. "Logically, a number of riders also hope for an improved contract for the future. Understandable, but for the team and the budget it is unfortunately not feasible to go along with all these increases. We want to be a team that can score across the board in the near future."

According to the team of manager Sven Nys, they have 'reached a good agreement' with Nieuwenhuis, which means the Dutchman can leave the team immediately. Nieuwenhuis himself has not yet responded to the departure from the team.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Nieuwenhuis is about to sign with brand new cyclocross team of Hans van Kasteren and team manager Richard Groenendaal. Van Kasteren was team manager of successful Telenet Fidea Lions before he sold it to Nys in 2016. That new team would be supported by bicycle brand Ridley.
