2024 Tour de France stage 3 GC Update: Richard Carapaz snatches yellow from Tadej Pogacar on countback

After a stunning opening two days at the 2024 Tour de France, stage 3 was a markedly more quiet affair, with Biniam Girmay eventually taking the stage win. Nevertheless, there was still some GC drama at the very last.

In fact, there is a new yellow jersey. Richard Carapaz has moved into the overall lead of the 2024 Tour de France following the stage. The EF Education - EasyPost rider remains on the same time as Tadej Pogacar, now 2nd, Remco Evenepoel, 3rd, and Jonas Vingegaard, 4th, but due to countback on positions finished through the first three stages, the Ecuadorian moves into the Maillot Jaune.

Romain Bardet remains 5th, 6 seconds behind the yellow jersey. Pello Bilbao moved up two positions and is now 6th, 21 seconds behind. Guillaume Martin, 7th with the same gap to the leader, and after climbing 9 positions. Egan Bernal drops one position and is 8th, also at 21 seconds. Actually, inside the Top 10 from 6th everyone has the same gap. Jai Hindley is 9th after climbing 6 positions, and Aleksandr Vlasov closes the Top 10 with 10th place.
