Women's Milano-Sanremo in the making for 2023

The monuments of cycling are continuously evolving, and more so into the women's peloton calendar. After Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Paris-Roubaix in recent years, a women's Milano-Sanremo is reported to be in the making already, and possibly to be raced as soon as next year.

In a talk to the press, RCS CEO Paolo Bellino has confirmed the news: “We are working this year to launch a Milan-San Remo for women, because I think that it’s a spring monument event that should be for the women. Of course, not such a long distance but we are working now to guarantee if for next year. It would be on the same day, so it would be in the same format as Strade Bianche."

This comes as another step taken in the equity between the men's and women's peloton. In the last few years, several high-profile races have been developed, Paris-Roubaix Femmes and Tour de France Femmes being good examples of races create very recently.

“We are discussing with the national federation to see if there are opportunities to work together... I think that in the next few months you will have some good news regarding this event," he added. This race would, if it is inserted in the calendar next year, take place in the same day as the men's race - which would come a day after the Trofeo Alfredo Binda.

“I think that women’s cycling is growing very quickly. If I compare it to tennis and running, athletics, golf, all the sports are growing, and I think that in the next four or five years there will be incredible growth of the cycling movement and luckily in this moment we also have some incredible female riders that achieve incredible goals. We saw in the last season and in the last few events. We are working and I hope that we will be able to do everything next year," he concluded.
