It was not the professional debut Wessel Krul envisioned when he joined Human Powered Health in 2022. His debut season ended in June with a streak of DNF's that led to iliac artery surgery later that year. Twelve months later, and 23-year old Krul is once again showing glimpses of potential as he competed for the KOM jersey in Tour of Denmark, among others.
For Krul, the TV minutes were welcome. Just before that, the rider had been told that Human Powered Health was ending. "That came as a surprise to me to be honest. The team had a lot of ambition and it was quite abrupt. We have not been given the exact reason. On Sunday we received an email and on Monday there was a meeting. Then we knew what time it was."
"Of course it is never fun when a team stops, but I think they have done well. I am also grateful that they did not immediately pull the plug, but that we will still have a great program in the coming months," he continues. "In the coming months I will ride the GP Fourmies, Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen, Omloop van het Houtland and then I will either go to the Tour de Langkawi or do some 1.1 races in Belgium and France."
It will be important months for the Dutchman with a view to the coming season. "Nothing concrete is happening yet. I'll have to work on it for the next few months. Of course I hope to remain a professional. I know that my level is just good and that I still have a lot to offer."
